Gourd family (cucurbitaceae) related to cucumbers, squash, and pumpkins. 
The loofa plant is a fast growing vine best known for producing the loofah sponge used for bathing, cleaning, and cooking. 

Origin: tropical and subtropical regions 

Large bright yellow flowers. 

young fruit: edible. Taste similar to zucchini.

mature fruit: dried into a fibrous sponge. Antimicrobial and anti fungal.
